Key information:
As part of their Personal Development lessons, we aim to make a positive impact regarding the mental wellbeing of our learners in the ever increasing and demanding world we live in, to give them the knowledge, skills and strategies to cope with the demands of everyday life in modern Britain. We also teach learners to make the right choices which will impact them in a positive way as they approach adulthood but also to have a positive ‘can do’ attitude whilst they are at school. We will know that this is true as we are delivering a high standard of education, quality assured through measures such as:
• Observing lessons
• Standards of learning in books
• Learner voice
Curriculum Intent
Our intent for Personal Development to promote an awareness and develop the understanding of the knowledge, skills, and attributes learners need to keep themselves healthy and safe and to prepare them for life and work in modern Britain. Personal Development helps learners to acquire these knowledge, skills and attributes they need to thrive on their Lyndon Learner Journey, as individuals and as members of society. From making responsible decisions about alcohol to succeeding in their first job, Personal Development helps learners to manage many of the most critical opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up. This curriculum helps children and young people to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn, such as anxiety and unhealthy relationships. Personal Development also helps learners to develop skills and aptitudes – like teamwork, communication, and resilience – that are crucial to navigating the challenges and opportunities of the modern world and are increasingly valued by employers, as well as character virtues which help them to become well-rounded and successful members of their communities.
Please note that parents have a right to withdraw their child from some or all non-statutory sex education. For more information about how to exercise this right, should you wish to, please contact us via the school office.
