Leaders from Lyndon School gather at glittering TES Awards
Leaders from Lyndon School in Solihull, part of the Summit Learning Trust family, are gathering for a glittering event – dubbed the ‘Oscars’ of education.
The team – led by the Executive Principal, Abid Butt – will find out at a ceremony in London tonight if it has beaten scores of other schools vying for ‘Secondary School of the Year’ in the annual TES School Awards 2024.
The nomination reflects Lyndon’s successful journey, transforming its provision to achieve Ofsted Good as well as record GCSE results in Summer 2023. Learners’ achievements have improved significantly and the school’s ‘Progress 8’ score – the measure used to track pupil progress from their start to end of secondary education – is impressively above the national average.
At the heart of Lyndon’s submission is its culture of aspiration and commitment to supporting each learner on to exciting next stage of further study, training or work when they leave. The school’s annual Careers Convention regularly attracts over 700 families and representation from local colleges, universities, training providers, and employers such as Barratt Developments plc, the NHS, National Grid, and Rolls Royce.
Academic achievement is supported by a broad and balanced curriculum and the school’s wide range of extra-curricular opportunities – which see Lyndon learners perform in a musical every year, and nearly 200 participate in extra-curricular sport every night – ensures attendance is above the national average.
Lyndon has been proud to support families through recent cost of living challenges and through the trust’s wider ‘Summit Base Camp’ offer, runs a food, hygiene and uniform bank. As a result, it has been recognised as an Inclusion Quality Mark Flagship School.
Abid Butt, Executive Principal, Lyndon School, said: “I am incredibly grateful to my dedicated team and our inspiring learners, who have made this nomination possible. It is fantastic to have their hard work recognised by TES but for me real success is seeing our learners dedicate themselves into their studies, making the most of all the opportunities we offer, and going on to the course or job of their dreams when they leave us. Whatever the outcome tonight, I will feel exceptionally proud of them all and honoured to lead Lyndon School.”
