Business Studies

Curriculum Team Leader Team Leader and Associate Assistant Principal: Mrs. Samrai

Key information:

This subject is only offered at Key Stage 4.

Businesses shape the world we live in. Some businesses are iconic and have become part of our daily vocabulary; for example, we say to “Google” something, meaning to search for something on the internet. The power these super-brands have had on our lives is immense and every business wants to achieve this level of impact. The GCSE Business course gives an insight into the different functional areas of a business from finance to marketing.

Curriculum Intent

We aim to create the very best Business students. The aim of the Business curriculum is to develop students’ understanding of how the local, national, and global economy works through analysing economic issues, problems and institutions that affect everyday life. The aim of the Business curriculum is to equip students with the appropriate knowledge and skills needed to develop their employability and identify business problems and opportunities.

We do this by quality first teaching which ensures students understand underlying Business theory which students apply to a variety of case studies. We want students to be able to think analytically, reach logical conclusions based on data, and make judgements on future changes to markets and the economy.

Our curriculum at Lyndon School goes far beyond what is taught in lessons, for whilst we want students to achieve the very best examination results possible, we believe our curriculum goes beyond what is examinable (e.g. a focus on The Apprentice candidates and what makes them successful in the job market).

Potential future career pathways in subject area

Business Studies gives an excellent insight into the real world of business and how it operates at all levels from the smallest firm to the largest global corporation. As a result, the skills you acquire and develop will be in great demand and form an excellent foundation for A levels, apprenticeships and university courses.
