Remote education provision:
Covid-19 restrictions may sometimes require large groups of children (or ‘bubbles’) to remain at home.
- The information in this leaflet explains what parents and carers can expect from remote education if this happens.
- Details about what you can expect when individual pupils are self-isolating are in the final section of this information.
- This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education if local restrictions require entire cohorts (or bubbles) to remain at home.
- For details of what to expect where individual pupils are self-isolating, please see the final section of this page.
The remote curriculum: What is taught to pupils at home?
The remote curriculum will require all pupils to follow their usual timetables as set out of the course of the normal school day. Pupils will be taught their school-based curriculum through their Microsoft Teams class channels for that particular subject.
- Generally, the input section of the lesson will last 45 minutes, after which pupils will be directed to undertake a 30-minute independent learning task linked directly to the learning objectives for that lesson. The teacher will be available for the remainder of the lesson and can be contacted through posting on the Teams class channel while the task is being completed.
- All pupils are asked to submit their work to the class teacher as directed for teachers to review and support formative assessment that will have taken place during the lesson.

If we do not have internet access at home, what can my child expect for remote learning?
- For pupils who do not have access to the internet, please contact the school via office@lyndon.org.ukor through the Main Reception on 0121 743 3402. We will work with our parents to make alternative arrangements for their children either through face-to-face teaching or through the provision of hard copies of learning resources.
Will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?
- Our ambition is to continue teaching our pupils the same age-appropriate curriculum as if they were in school, albeit remotely.
- Primarily, live lessons will be delivered by your class teacher via Microsoft Teams.
- In some subjects, the curriculum has been adapted to due to learning taking place through the Virtual Classroom. For example, Food Technology post practical demonstrations online for practical lessons; Core Physical Education lessons direct pupils to complete a physical activity in the space they have available at home.
- In some instances, there may be a requirement for some lessons to be delivered via pre-recorded resources. When this is the case, pupils will have a series of independent study tasks to engage with alongside the pre-recorded resources.
How does my child access online remote education?
- As part of our Remote Learning Strategy, all pupils have received training on how to access Microsoft Teams (MS Teams). You can access further information about how to access online learning through the banner on the school’s homepage www.lyndon.org.ukor by using the following hyperlink to access the page directly: https://www.lyndon.org.uk/students-working-from-home-2/
- If you experience technical problems, please contact Summit Learning Trust’s IT Team: https://www.lyndon.org.uk/2021/01/14/student-portal-support/
- If problems persist after contacting the Summit’s IT Team, or for any other problems, please contact your child’s Pastoral Manager via office@lyndon.org.uk
What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we, as parents and carers, should provide at home?
- Pupils are expected to be online for live lessons from 8.50am – 3.00pm every day except on Tuesday where pupils will follow the usual format of the day 8.50am – 2.00pm (please refer to the timetable above).
- Pupils should follow the school’s behaviour policy whilst working at home, and we ask parents to support us in monitoring and enforcing these expectations whilst pupils are studying at home. The key expectations are:
- Pupils should check their lessons at the start of the day to ensure they are prepared. If a teacher is absent, cover arrangements will be in place and details will be in the students’ online calendar in TEAMS or via the Team Class Channel.
- Pupils are expected to be ready to start lessons punctually, and be fully equipped with pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, exercise books or paper and any other resources they would expect to use in a face-face lesson at school.
- Pupils should wait patiently in the ‘lobby’ until access to their lessons is granted by their class teacher.
- Pupil device cameras must be turned off for safeguarding reasons.
- Pupils must not use the chat facility unless instructed to do so by the teacher. The chat facility is to be used to either ask or answer a question. It is not to be used a chat room and dialogue between students and should be professional in tone. Where pupils repeatedly fail to follow these guidelines, their chat facility will be removed.
- Respect that teachers are responsible for controlling when pupils are able to interact using the microphone. Whilst a teacher is explaining the lesson, all pupils will be on mute to ensure there is no disruption to learning. Class teachers will only unmute the microphone to invite individual or class interaction. Pupils must not call out to other pupils in the class.
- Pupil profile icons must be appropriate to the school setting – any images that are not will be removed.
- Pupils must engage fully and submit work as directed by their class teachers.
How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?
- We will be monitoring engagement in each class each day. Your child’s class teacher or pastoral manager will notify you if your child is found to be repeatedly not attending sessions.
- Parents or carers are encouraged to support the schools monitoring of engagement. Any concerns should be promptly reported to your child Pastoral Manager through office@lyndon.org.uk
How will you assess my child’s work and progress?
- Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others.
- Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:
o Formative assessment in lessons – whole group and individual questioning.
o Microsoft Forms quizzes
o Assessed work submitted, either through individual or whole class feedback.
How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education?
o We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home.
o Lessons will contain scaffolding in the form of explanation or frames for thinking / completing tasks.
o If, despite these ‘in-class’ adaptations, there are issues with completing work in a particular subject area, please contact the school’s SENDCo, Ms. Hill via jo.hill@lyndon.org.uk
Safeguarding and Mental Health
o Given that pupils are likely to spend more time online during these high-level restrictions.
o We would ask our parents or carers to talk to their children regularly about the benefits and risks of the online world and give them space to ask questions and talk about anything that worries them.
o If you require support or have concerns in respect of your child’s wellbeing please contact the schools Designated Safeguarding Lead, Mrs Bloomer using via office@lyndon.org.uk. Further advice and guidance to parents or carers has is available through the following link https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-keeping-children-safe-online/coronavirus-covid-19-support-for-parents-and-carers-to-keep-children-safe-online We would strongly advise our families to work through this guidance.
Please note: provision for children of critical workers and those identified as vulnerable or requiring additional support will continue to be provided in school.
