Travel and Tourism allows pupils to use
the knowledge and understanding from geography at KS3 and apply it with a
specific focus on the growing industry of tourism. The course allows pupils to:
- A)
Investigate the aims of UK travel and tourism organisations – Travel agents, including
business and retail – give expert advice and guidance; arrange and book trips,
excursions, flights and package holidays for customers; arrange and book
ancillary services, including car hire, insurance, foreign exchange. - B)
Explore travel and tourism and tourist destinations and the factors that
influence global travel and tourism such as Economic factors, Political factors
& impact of Natural disasters - C)
Impacts of tourism – focusing on Social impact, Economic impact and
Environmental impact of tourism. - D)
Sustainability and managing social impacts – looking at educating visitors to
encourage them to reduce their negative impacts on the local community and
culture. - E)
How infrastructure development can benefit local people – Including looking at
local communities and their role in decision making. - F)
Partnership projects where local communities have a share or ownership of how
tourism impacts their lives.

Learners who study Travel and tourism normally use this to allow them to conduct any of
the following:
A Levels as preparation for entry to higher education (university).
Study of a vocational qualification at Level 3, such as a BTEC National in Travel and
Tourism, which prepares learners to enter employment or apprenticeships in the
field of travel and tourism sector of employment.
