STUDENTS from Lyndon School, part of Summit Learning Trust, took part in the GCHQ National Language Competition 2022 this month, involving a five-day task on a variety of language-themed challenges.
From November 7-11, Year 9 children across the UK were invited by intelligence agency, GCHQ, to complete a variety of exciting problems and puzzles centred around languages and maths – with the aim of scoring as many points as possible.
The competition encouraged children to have fun using languages, and be inspired to continue their language learning at GCSE level and beyond.
The winning team will be invited to the GCHQ headquarters in Cheltenham and will be presented with their trophy by Director, Sir Jeremy Fleming.
Anaya, Komeyl, Ana and Michael, learners from Lyndon School, used their expert code-cracking and quick-thinking skills to complete the challenge.
A Year 9 learner at Lyndon School, who took part in the competition, said: “I am delighted to have taken part in the GCHQ NLC. I found the project to be really useful, combining my skills as a mathematician and linguist.”
Abid Butt, Principal at Lyndon School, part of Summit Learning Trust, said: “I am delighted to see our learners participate in the National Language Competition, and to give them the chance to visit such a prestigious organisation like GCHQ. Congratulations to all those that took part.
“Activities like these are an essential part of our ambitious, inclusive and knowledge rich curriculum, which promote the development of our learners and help to broaden their horizons.”
