At Lyndon School we pride ourselves on our live shows. High quality performance, in a professional setting and everyone supporting each other. It really is a team effort involving students and staff. We have our annual fixtures in the calendar – such as Christmas at Lyndon & the Summer Arts Festival – as well as special showcase evenings such as Lyndon’s Got Talent and our celebration of cultural diversity, The Big Event. If you would like to see some examples of the brilliant work our students produce , take a look at our YouTube channel and click on the ‘School Shows & Productions’ playlist. We look forward to seeing you in person at one of the live shows in the future! ~ The Performing Arts Team

At the start of this academic year we decided to set up a Key Stage 4 Theatre Company to give Year 10 and Year 11 students the opportunity to take part in some extra- curricular drama work and also as a progression route for all of our dedicated Key Stage 3 Drama Club students. The idea with this was to create a ‘professional’ working atmosphere in the hope of creating quality work which could be performed in school shows and also be entered into national competitions.

The group meet once a week on a Monday after school and this term we have been working on a performance of Willy Russell’s ‘Blood Brothers’. To inspire the students we took them to the Coventry Belgrade to watch a professional production of this show which they all thoroughly enjoyed. After Easter students will be performing their version of the play to an invited audience of family and friends as well as their peers.

Next year we hope to enter the company into national competitions as well as share their work with other local schools and colleges.

Music Plus is an exciting alternative to our regular Music Curriculum.  Music Plus allows a fantastic opportunity for students of all ages, abilities and instruments to be involved within a student band. Twice a fortnight, students will replace their regular Performing Arts lesson with an hour of making music together with up to 30 other students. This is a student driven project which allows students to decide the songs they learn, anything from pop to opera, or jazz to rock, as well as the possibility to learn a new instrument. This option is available for any student who is being taught an instrument, self-teaching or wants to learn an instrument. This really is a fantastic, innovative idea to ensure students are loving music as well as progressing their skills as a musician. Music is not about spending hours in a practice room alone, but in fact, getting together with other musicians to make something great.

Soul Band is the pride and joy of Lyndon Music. Set up just over a year ago, the band have performed twice at the infamous Cavern Club as well as the o2 Academy. The Soul Band rehearse every Tuesday after school and comprises of a full horn section, lead singer, two backing singers and a full rhythm section. Students that are currently not in the Soul Band are welcomed and encouraged to get involved in the Soul Band if they wish to.
