Modern Foreign Languages

At Lyndon school, we believe that the study of a foreign language not only provides our students with useful skills which are fast becoming essential in modern and highly competitive world, but it also gives them a liberating and life enhancing experience, which adds breadth to their cultural social and linguistic knowledge and skills.

The MFL team consists of five members of staff who are all able to teach two foreign languages. We fully embrace advances in technology and can boast of a wide range of interactive, as well as traditional paper-based, learning tools. The team also has a strong commitment to extending learning beyond the formal curriculum and all team members are encouraged to run or become involved in visits abroad for our students. Indeed, last year out trip to Barcelona attracted well in excess of 100 students and similar trips to France have proved equally successful.

Currently, upon entry in year 7 all students learn Spanish or French, at KS4 both French and Spanish are offered and students follow the Edexcel examination board.

Students are currently taught in mixed ability sets until December of Year 7 and in tiered sets from then onwards.
